Chapter Nine: A Prey

The Monster was closing in on his next prey, a wealthy teenager who was visiting New York City as a tourist from Montana, who flew in to watch the highly acclaimed Broadway musical, "The Missing and the Meerkat." The Monster was dressed like a twenty-four year old blond guy, with athletic built, handsome features, and a British accent to boot. He was attracted to this prey because of her creative mind that exudes with her presence, her noticeable intellectual demeanor, and her charm that is accentuated with the most beautiful smile.

He was honestly romantically attracted to her, more than to hurt her, and this kind of feeling is not normal to himself, for he has never felt it before. Usually, when he needed to prey on someone, his feelings are more of a thrill rather than the hesitation of trying to harm his potential victim.

But tonight, his killer instinct is totally gone. Or at least it was eclipsed by something much different, something strange of a virtue which he cannot explain. He was feeling his heart beating so fast the more that he turn his gaze upon her, and he was feeling terribly shy the more he was inching closer from where she was standing, innocently yet commanding.

It was a feeling he couldn't quite place. Monsters are supposed to be fierce, ruthless, and full of numbness, devoid of any compassion, and yet here he was, hesitating to take on a potential prey whose talents he can use that can be very beneficial to his Sinister Agent whom he needed to constantly please.

But whatever was happening, this whole experience is giving him doubts and emotions that depict fear and uncertainty. Was he lost? Is he somewhere he shouldn't be? Was he threading on two strange bodies of water? He was very much concerned that his Sinister Agent might punish him at this point, for completely losing it over a girl, and then getting into a much deeper trouble, and it was the least of his concerns right now.

However, he could not help it. The more he turn his attention to the girl, the more he feels drawn and thrilled by her mere alluring presence. Are monsters supposed to feel this way, or is the Sinister Agent just testing his loyalty and his "personality?"

He knew for a fact that he must not violate any sentiments important to his Sinister Agent. A slave is not allowed to do that at all. He tried to shrug off his feelings to concentrate on the task at hand. A prey is a prey, and there is simply no exception. He must do what he must do under whatever circumstances is present. His feelings are irrelevant at this point. He must act with swiftness.

After taking a deep breath so that he could exhale dramatically, he followed the girl to initiate the attack. But as soon as she turned her eyes on him, he seemed petrified and was caught off-guard to even pursue. He froze like a statue. And then the girl was waving and smiling at him.

"There you are, Julius. I have been looking for you. I've got our tickets."

The Monster was even more horrified. What is going on? Does she know him? To his surprise, he found himself replying almost automatically. He was bewildered beyond measure.

"Of course," he said sweetly.
