Chapter Thirty One: The Predicament and New Love

Fairy tales are more than true:
not because they tell us that dragons exist,
but because they tell us that it can be beaten.

"I am still scared, Caleb," Ruth Badger anxiously said to him. She was an Anti-Plagiarist while he was a Legendary Spy. What they are talking about is very secret between the two of them, because their love affair is totally forbidden. The fundamental laws of the Diaspora is absolutely certain about this certain situation.

"Do not be," Caleb Finch replied, reassuring her fearful heart. "Nobody would know what you saw from my camera stick. We will keep it a secret. And we will kill them again if they try to approach us."

"You do not understand," Ruth said, her head shaking in disbelief. "It is not the camera lens that I saw, but something else. A sinister kind of reflection; a spell of doom for all of us. It was a war of good and evil, and there is no clear winner that I imagined."

She started to sob; her tears were like silver droplets in the cold night air. Caleb started to worry, and he held her in his arms tightly.

"You do not have to say to me, or to anyone else whatever it is that you have seen. And they do not need to know; we will never tell them. This is a secret between the two of us, and this is my solemn promise."

"It was that mirror that will ultimately haunt us, Caleb," Ruth said. "We cannot flee from the reach of the law for very long. One day, they will see something is quite wrong in the way the monsters are dealt with, the pattern will be identified, and they will come to a conclusion that these evil acts are ruthless war crimes that we are terribly involved in perpetuating."

Caleb knew that to be true, too.

"I am ready for the consequences," he stated bravely.

"But I need to fight as well if we are going to get through this predicament together!" Ruth suddenly said, almost as a shout.

"They cannot find your daggers in the scene, Ruth. I have told you before, okay? You cannot afford to leave traces of the characteristics of the Diaspora into the places of these killings. Besides, the Sinister Agent will easily track you once you leave some credible evidence behind."

"But I want to help! I need to do something, too! I just cannot let them had the opportunity to destroy you while I was busy hiding from their sight. I am not a coward, Caleb!"

"Help will come, Ruth. We will not flee from our lives, forever. President Algebra will never fully succeed in this plot to help Lucifer the Devil. They will not retrieve the location of the perpendicular star and that important scene from my camera stick. We just have to tryst in the timing of our shared destiny."
